capitol. we are told that scalise took bullet to the hip. he's been a lift today nearby hospital. his condition according to the associated press is listed as stable. early reports are that he will survive, in fact, the president suggesting the same thing just a moment ago from the white house. so, we have a quickly developing story, as we say good morning here on america's news room. and here we go, into yet another significant development in washington dc. >> okay, there with bill help err. >> learned a lot of information in the past couple every minutes. most recently, texas congressman roger williams was also shot in addition to representative steve scalise. >> we heard four people had been shot. but no the capitol police and the alexandria police department confirm five people have been shot, taken to area hospital. five people have been taken to the hospital. but yes, just in the process, looks like, five people actually shot. steve scalise, now texas

information, texas congressman roger williams, also, hit along with representative steve scalise, majority whip. also, the capitol police were on the scene because they were there to guard, especially, all every these congress people, but specially thereon detail for majority whip steve scalise. so they returned fire, as well. capitol police apparently got involved in the shooting as well. so, i know rand paulsen tore rand paul was there, and out of kentucky, he said that if those police officers hadn't been there because the guy had automatic weapon, shooter, supposedly reports have said middle-aged white man who is now in custody at the alexandria police department, that it really could have been horrible, would have been a massacre. >> and makes me think about, too, the situation that happened, we heard, senator jeff flake, talking earlier about how when he saw what happened to representative steve scalise, went and grabbed the phone to call his

update. as we mentioned, the shooting gang roughly about 7:09. some reports saying 7:15 this morning, and lasted about ten minute, according to several eyewitness accounts. representative, ron de sanities, told fox news, that a man asked him if it was republicans, or democrats, practicing on that field. about three minute later, the shooting began, there were as many as 50 shots that were fired this morning. it is still unclear if the shots were from the suspect or from law enforcement, but witnesses say at least 50 shots were fired. the entire ballpark, this is on east monroe avenue, you see, the chopper landing there, several people that were struck, air lifted by area hospitals, once again, this is on east monroe avenue, several blocks surrounding that ballpark on lock-down including several schools in the area. being reported that this situation is seen contained by alexandria police, still have their weapons drawn, they're in stand by for any situation.

surgery beginning any minute, that's for a hip injury. of course, shots ringing out, we were told there were some 25 congressmen all republican at this baseball practice when the shooting began, one of the congressmen said they heard between 50 and 60 shots rang out. saying it was about ten minutes worth of shooting spree. now, the gunman in question has been caught. and is in custody on his way it a hospital. we do not know his condition. police have not told us his condition, we are expecting some sort of update within the next hour and a half. exactly what has happened, but been told about five people have been taken to the hospital. >> representative steel scalise. >> thank you for clearing that up. >> that's what happens with these breaking news situations, as we are getting reports, still getting certain things confirm. and we've learned a lot since what happened that originally

secretary of state tillerson is testifying in front of the committee on which i served so i skipped practice to prepare for that hearing. >> since you are a member of the baseball team and you know where democrats practice how far do the democrats practice from where the republicans were? >> so, it appears the republican field is in alexandria which is about 10 minutes from here. our practice field is at a university within a five minute drive of the capitol. so not, not very far at all. the one thing that is becoming aparent is fortunately the republicans had the capitol police, at their practice because one of their team members happens to be a, happens to get capitol police protection steve scalise. on the democrats team we don't practice with capitol police there, in one on our team is in house leadership since we are in the minority.

white male who was very lethargically slowly getting in and out of his van parked along the street. i didn't speak to this individual, i didn't see any weapons, only reason i noted it was because i had to slow down and wait for him to kind of meander out of the middle of the street back toward his van and i would have never thought anything bit, had i not heard about this incident. >> so as you recall and i know i'm jogging your memory the best i can what do you recognize what do you remember about this individual. >> he was just an average white male probably 5-foot 10 or so, five, 10, something along those lines in height. it looked like he was preparing... >> that is representative bill johnson out of ohio, after practice he was describing what the gunman looked like. he showed up in a van, in a
